Groton Sustainability Commission
We are working to establish a Sustainability Commission for the Town of Groton. Mike Roberts is heading up this effort, which is formally separate from Groton Local but with overlapping interests and membership. A meeting was held at the NRWA on October 10, 2006 to initiate this effort. Shortly afterward, Mike Roberts made a presentation to the Groton Board of Selectmen (BoS) proposing the formation of a study committe to develop a recommendation regarding the formation of a permanent Sustainability Commision for the town.
The selectmen approved the recommendation unanimously, and Mike worked with Jeff Ritter, administrative assistant to the BoS, to initiate the study committee and sign up its members. The study committee has met a number of times already and will be preparing a recommendation targetted for spring 2008 town meeting.
The mission of the Groton Sustainability Commission would be to provide resources, assistance and inspiration to the people of Groton to become a measurably sustainable community. This can include assistance with grant making, becoming an information clearing house and providing technical assistance and research.
